Okay… So I guess I am now the guy who listens to Hardcore. Mind bending isn’t it? I mean, my main scene is Death/Technical/Progressive Metal with a hint of Doom. So where does Hardcore fit in? Well I’ll tell you: from bands like Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH).

Don’t groan! I know what many of you are thinking and I can assure you that you’re wrong. That element that bridges these genres is that some, not all, but some Hardcore bands have a very appealing aggressive and technical side to them. Seriously! It does not take a brainchild to see this and in all honesty most of the 'core' based bands are crap. The ones that show promise or even talent are the ones worth listening to.

Like I said, 'core' tends to be garbage, but some bands manage to diversify themselves from the lot. Take that evolutionary step to maybe being crap with legs. BMTH prove my point. Instrumentally, the band, from Sheffield, U.K. isn’t too bad. Their second release “Suicide Season” is pretty aggressive to say the least. However, one thing that stands out to me the most is how shitty the lyrics are (not to mention the track titles). They are garbage. No, they are garbage full of A.I.D.S. diapers that mentally retarded inbred rats won’t even touch. Here are a couple of examples:

|"If I had it my way, I’d slit your throat with the knife you left in my back".|
|"
I've got a secret. It's on the tip of my tongue, it's on the back of my lungs. And I'm gonna keep it. I know something you don't know".|
|"
If only sorrow could build a staircase, or tears could show the way we would climb my way to heaven, and bring home again".|
|"And after everything you put me through, I should of FUCKING PISSED ON YOU!"|

Second, the presentation of the vocals can turn to mush at times. Some people like this but I for one, am not a fan. What I mean is it almost seems like the vocalist /backups are just barfing words. Not cool in contrast to some of the effective well placed screams, grunts, and roars. Other than that, I quite enjoy the rest of the album.

Instrumentally the album is superb and pulled off very well. There are a lot of digital effects added to each and every instrument (including vocals throughout the album but it is not monotonous. I think I am safe to say that it gives the band a bit of an edge over others belonging to the 'Hardcore scene'. The production is A-1, and the track lengths are just right. All in all, I would recommend this album to those who are looking for energizing instrumental experience. If you can tolerate the shit lyrics then you will likely enjoy. However, you will find better albums and vocals out there (see Architects review).

If these dudes can clean up their act and even write some moderately decent lyrics, I see an even brighter future and broader fan base. Then again, with over 7 million plays per track on their Myspace maybe they’re doing it right. What do I know?

On the Tuff Scale, Suicide Season gets 4 F’s --- TUFFFF.
