Canada has one Hell of an underground scene, you can't deny it. It's a fact. Case and point: Insurrection. Hailing from Quebec, this is a quintet dedicated to showcasing their abilities and talent through destruction amassed in the creation of their music. (Ironic isn't it)? When one thinks of a Canadian Death Metal act, usually one of two bands comes into mind. Kataklysm or Cryptopsy. However, I envision Insurrection quickly being added into the mindset with their pure brilliance of musical tyranny proven with "Prologue".

Insurrection have the uncanny ability to take Death Metal and make it come alive, wiping out everything in a 666 KM radius. The group showcases their determination almost seamlessly, with "Prologue" having very few faults. It definitely stands out in an overcrowded market of endless new Death Metal bands coming out every month. I'll go as far to say that I enjoy "Prologue" a ton more than the latest Cannibal Corpse release "Evisceration Plague". It's better production-wise, and song-wise. Not to mention I prefer the vocalization of Steph Jomphe in contrast to George Fisher by a long shot. Steph's vocals are deeper and more sophisticated sounding whereas, Corpsegrinder's become a mess of incoherent drivel in almost every Cannibal Corpse song.

I know it's kind of unfair to make such a comparison between the two bands so much. I just surprised myself that I ended up rocking out more to the small underground Death Metal act from Quebec other than the Death pioneers themselves. And in the end that's why I have such a fondness for "Prologue". It's different than the rest of its kind and I feel that if it can impress me more than what the big bands are doing, then you can bet your soul that Insurrection will go far.
